About the project:

With this project she authored during the period when pandemic distorted natural flow of life, Chichek departs from her fascination with suburban elements and delves into interaction of generations trom human perspective, rural architecture and women labor. The very fact of Khinalig being inaccessible through normal means allowed age-old customs and traditions, architecture, pristine surroundings as well as language to preserve their gravitas through the winds of time. The eponymous trail that gifted its name to the book declares this place's magnificence in its own right. Photographs try to capture ambiguous narratives, probe tensions between human closure and separation, women pursuing labor and childhood - intimacy and isolation.

Island in The Mountains - the new work by Chichek Bayramly depicts alternative view on Khinalig - village tested by trials of 5,000 years at altitude of 2300 meters above sea

level. The village of Kech-language speakers presents an extraordinary panorama of upland hillside settlement. All of this is complemented by traditions and rites that are religiously followed and carried by every generation, vibrant buildings and carpet ornaments that grace every wall.
